3.     RESULTS

 ·       The official results of UKA recorded races will be used for definitive times. Any club event chosen will use accurate timing.

·       Handicap times are based on previous 10K or 5K races.

Each new member must inform the handicap series organizer of their last race time at the above distance before commencement of the race series participation.

This time will be entered into a race prediction calculator to work out the handicap time for the following race in the series.

The initial handicap is calculated using the following formula

T2 = T1 x (D2/D1)Power

T1 is the given time, D1 is the given distance, D2 is the distance to predict a time for, Power is used to offset for different distances, and T2 is the calculated time for D2.

The latest race time in each distance will be used to calculate a revised handicap time for the next race in the series.  This will then reflect any ongoing improvement or decline in performance.

This will be calculated using the following formula

New Handicap = Start Handicap– ((Start Handicap– Race Time)/2)

For example if your 10 K start handicap was 50 minutes and you completed the race in 48 minutes your new handicap for the next race would be

00:49:00 = 00:50:00 – ((00:50:00 – 00:48:00)/2)

·       After each race entered your race time from the published results will be used to calculate your series time for the race. This calculation is the difference between your race time and predicted handicap.

For example if your 10 K start handicap was 50 minutes and you completed the race in 48 minutes your series times for the race would be a positive 120 seconds

00:50:00 – 00:48:00 = 00:02:00 or + 120 seconds

If you finished in 50 minutes 30 seconds this would give you a series time of negative 30 seconds

00:50:00 – 00:50:30 = - 00:00:30 or - 30 seconds
