BARTON AND DISTRICT AC RACE REPORTS

Deepdale Dash 10K

THE weather was unseasonably kind for the second annual Deepdale Dash 10k which saw more than 200 runners take to the hills of the rural route.

Conditions were almost perfect for the event which is proving to be an increasingly popular occasion on the running calendar and sees competitors striding out of Barton, up Caistor Road, round Deepdale and back into the town down Barrow Road before finishing in the grounds of Baysgarth School.

The course record for the undulating race was broken for both males and females by 1 minute for the men and over three minutes for the females.

The first man home was Anthony Whiteman of Shaftsbury Barnett who crossed the line in an impressive 32 mins 20 secs, almost a whole minute ahead of second placed Carl Ryde of Doncaster AC (33 mins 15 secs), followed by Bridlington Road Runners' Phil Taylor (33 mins 59 secs).

Meanwhile, unaffiliated Klacken Cheshire was first lady home in a speedy 40 mins 02 secs, well ahead of the second and third ladies; unaffiliated Ruth Wilson who came home in 43 mins 44 secs and Cleethorpes AC's Pirio Kivelainen (43 mins 56 secs).

Ancholme Valley took the men's team prize and host club Barton AC won the ladies team prize.

Prizes were also handed out to the first local man and lady from the DN18 and DN19 postcode areas with Simon Blakey picking up the men's prize, arriving home in 42 mins 23 secs and Barrow's Gemma Bell collecting the ladies' prize, finishing in 45 mins and seventh overall lady.

The 1 and 2k fun runs also proved a hit with runners with more than 80 competitors involved in the two events and runners as young as two completing the one or two laps of the field to collect their medals and well deserved end of race cakes.

Runners and spectators alike were delighted with the excellent organisation of the event, the superb marshalling and the all round feel of the occasion with many runners vowing to return in 2012 when the race, which is to take place on Sunday 04 November, will have an increased field of 400 maximum.

Walkington 10K

Friday 8th July

3 Barton & District AC runners braved the thunder storms and wind to complete the Walkington 10K.

Rain threatened at the start and arrived just after.  The first 2 miles were into a head wind and rain howwever this eased after the first 2 miles with cool conditions then taking over (a changed from Humber Half Marathon)

The course is an undulating and scenic route.  Mark was the first Barton & District athelete to finish in a time of 39:47 which brough him home in 43rd position out of 548 finishers.  Paul was next in at 43.30 position 108, then Shaun in a time of 49:25 which placed him 268th.

All the runners had good times for the conditions on the course and all will be back next year.

Thanks to Beverley AC for another well organised race.
