Club London Marathon Places
Running the London Marathon is a dream for many runners, and at Barton & District AC, we are proud to offer our members the chance to experience this iconic event through our Club place allocation.
In 2018, we introduced a new system to replace the previous draw for London Marathon Club places. The updated system ensures that the opportunity to represent Barton & District AC at the London Marathon is allocated fairly and transparently, giving all qualifying members a clear path to securing a place.
How the System Works
We maintain a rolling list of eligible members who meet the criteria (outlined below). The position on the list determines who will be next in line to receive a Club place when one becomes available. If a member at the top of the list cannot take up their place, it will be offered to the next person in line.
This system ensures that all fully paid-up UKA-registered Barton & District AC members who wish to experience running the London Marathon will eventually have the opportunity to do so.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for a Club place and to remain on the list each year, you must meet the following criteria:
✅ Be a fully paid-up UKA registered member by 30th April of the current year.
✅ Provide a rejection letter or email from the current year’s London Marathon ballot.
✅ Have contributed to a Club event (e.g., as a volunteer or organiser) within the last 12 months.
✅ Have never previously run the London Marathon through any entry method (ballot, ‘good for age,’ championship, or charity).
How the List is Managed
- New qualifying members will be added to the list each year in the order determined by a Club ballot.
- The list is maintained by the Membership Secretary, and a copy will be available on the Club website.
- If a member secures a place in the London Marathon through any other means (ballot, ‘good for age,’ championship, or charity) or fails to meet the eligibility criteria, they will be removed from the list, and all others will move up accordingly.
Injury and Deferrals
- If a member secures a Club place but becomes injured after registering their entry, they can defer their place according to the official London Marathon rules.
- If a member is unable to take up their place and has not processed their entry, they will be expected to pass their place to the next person on the list. However, they will be guaranteed the first available Club place in the following year.
Future Place Allocation
The London Marathon organisers allocate between one and three Club places to Barton & District AC each year, depending on the number of fully registered UKA members. Future places will be offered to those at the top of the list, ensuring that every eligible member will eventually have the chance to take part.

Staying On The List
To remain on the list, you must provide evidence that you meet the criteria to the Membership Secretary, Sarah Atkin, as soon as possible after the official London Marathon ballot results are released — but no later than the end of July.
It is your responsibility to provide this evidence. Failure to do so will result in removal from the list for that year.
