Our Club
Welcome to Barton & District Athletic Club (BADAC)!
At Barton & District AC, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, inclusive, and forward-thinking athletics club at the heart of the Barton upon Humber community. Whether you’re lacing up your running shoes for the first time or chasing a personal best, our Club offers a supportive environment where athletes of all ages and abilities can thrive.
A Club with a Proud History
Founded in the mid-1950s by Ralph Clark, a local geography teacher and highly regarded athletics official, BADAC has a rich and proud heritage in the world of athletics. Over the decades, the Club has produced outstanding athletes, including national champions and record-holders, while maintaining a strong focus on fostering a love for the sport within the local community. Our motto — “From beginners to winners, small and tall, track, field and road – we do it all!” — reflects our commitment to inclusivity and excellence across all disciplines.
Training for All Ages and Abilities
We believe that athletics should be for everyone, regardless of experience or ability. That’s why we offer a comprehensive range of training sessions that cater to juniors, youths, and adults alike:
- Junior and Youth Squads – Our younger athletes train at Baysgarth School on Thursdays and Costello Stadium on Tuesdays under the guidance of qualified coaches who focus on building confidence, developing technique, and nurturing a lifelong passion for the sport.
- Adult Road Running Section – Over the last seven years, our adult section has grown from just 12 regular runners to over 90 members attending our Thursday night club sessions. We cater to all levels of ability, from complete beginners to experienced marathon runners. Our sessions, led by qualified England Athletics Leaders in Running Fitness, are designed to improve endurance, speed, and overall performance while building a sense of camaraderie and mutual support.
A Community
BADAC isn’t just about running and athletics — it’s about building lasting friendships and creating a sense of belonging. Our social calendar includes Club nights, race meetups, and celebrations, fostering a close-knit and supportive atmosphere. We regularly participate in local and national events, including road races, track meets, and cross-country competitions, proudly wearing our Club colours.
The support from our dedicated volunteers, coaches, and committee members is the backbone of our Club. Their hard work ensures that every session is safe, well-organised, and motivating. We’re incredibly proud of the spirit and dedication that drives BADAC forward.
