THE ROAD TRIP TO YORKSHIRE

BADAC RUNNERS TRAIN AND TRAVEL TOGETHER TO THE YORKSHIRE MARATHON FESTIVAL 2025

On Sunday 19th October 2025 the Yorkshire Marathon Festival returned to the City of York for what has become one of the region’s premier autumn running events. The full marathon (26.2 miles/42.195km) formed the centre-piece of the overall festival of running hosted by Run for All alongside the 10 mile and marathon-relay distances.

Starting at the University of York’s Heslington campus, runners navigated a scenic, fast and friendly course through the city, past key landmarks into the surrounding Yorkshire countryside and returned to the finish o University Road. Edward Buck of Newark AC was the first finisher in 2:18:15 with Leeds City AC’s Heather Townsend the first female crossing the line in 2:38:58.

Barton & District AC had a strong representation, many of whom had trained together, under the guidance of Steve Chaplin, and also traveled to the event together organised by Richard Musgrave. Joining Steve and Richard running the marathon distance, some for the first time were Leigh Gillatt, Matthew Lambert, Kathryn Drury, Racheal Couch, Kieren Iannidinardi, Clare Papworth and Beth Montgomery.

The 10 mile event proved to be another strong addition to York’s autumn road running calendar, once again bringing together seasoned road runners, club athletes and weekend warriors to tackle the ten mile distance through the City and into the surrounding countryside. The backdrop of the University campus and the crisp October conditions added to the atmosphere.

Retford AC’s Samuel Roberts finished the 10 miler in a stunning 49:33 with local lady Katy Wood of City of York AC taking the women’s crown in 56:55.

Accompanying the marathoners on their journey to York were Sarah Bainbridge, Simon Palmer, Wayne Pulford, Tracey Griffiths, Fiona Copper, Sue Oldfield, Sharon Bullivent, Georgia Bullivent, Zoe Tansley, Martina Hodgson, Tracy Chaplin, Zoe Adams and Carol Clayton achieving some fabulous times in the race to then support the marathon squad over the finish line.
