Runners from far and wide gathered at Normanby Hall Country Park on Sunday 12th October for the ever-popular Hedgehog Half Marathon, organised by Curly’s Athletes. The event, known for its friendly atmosphere and scenic rural route, once again delivered a fantastic day of running, charity support and community spirit.
Almost 500 runners took to the start line beneath crisp, misty, autumn skies, tackling the 13.1 mile course that winds through the villages and quiet country lanes around Burton upon Stather, Alkborough and Whitton.
The men’s race was won by Adam Plows, who led from early on to cross the line in a superb 1:12:22, followed by Stephen Geraghty (Scunthorpe & District RC) in 1:14:41 with Lewis Suddaby of East Hull Harriers & AC third in 1L14:58. In the women’s race, Chesterfield Tri Club’s Emma Holt produced an outstanding performance to claim the top spot in 1:21:47, ahead of local Off That Couch Fitness athlete Abigail Scales (1:25:48) and Katie Wise of Pocklington Runners in 1:28:56.
BADAC were strongly represented with Steve Chaplin smashing the VM60 club record, finishing second in his age category. Club chairman Mark Nettleton was 3rd in his age category and Georgiana Bacon was first in her age category just a week before running the Amsterdam Marathon. Fellow club members Matthew Lambert, Louise Binns, Sarah Cook, Tracy Chaplin, Christy Pearson, Helen Williams and Helen Foulston all had great runs.
