On Monday 21st April, Barton & District AC’s own Ben Sadowyj took on the 129th Boston Marathon, one of the world’s most prestigious and historic races — and delivered an absolutely stunning performance that will go down in Club history.
Running the iconic 26.2-mile route from Hopkinton to Boylston Street, Ben crossed the finish line in an eye-watering time of 2:26:13, smashing his own Club marathon record in the process. That’s an average pace of 5:35 per mile — a phenomenal effort on a course known for its rolling terrain and notorious late-race sting: Heartbreak Hill.
Ben’s result places him among some of the top UK amateur marathoners — and cements his place in BADAC folklore.
A Race Steeped in Legacy
The Boston Marathon is not just any race. It’s the oldest annual marathon in the world, attracting elite athletes and passionate amateurs from across the globe. Runners qualify via tough standards, and the atmosphere from start to finish is like no other — with thousands of spectators lining the route, offering encouragement through every town, hill and hamstring-cramping mile.
This year’s race delivered historic performances:
- Kenya’s John Korir claimed the men’s title in 2:04:45 — the second-fastest time in race history.
- Fellow Kenyan Sharon Lokedi broke the women’s course record in 2:17:22, holding off the defending champion.

Ben ran shoulder to shoulder with some of the best in the world, and his sub-2:30 result is a testament to his dedication, training, and mental toughness.
