The end of 2025 was a few weeks of festive flair and fast finishes for Barton & District AC. While many were reaching for the mince pies, our athletes were hitting the roads, trails and tracks to close out 2025 in style. Here is a wrap up of an action packed month.
DONCASTER CITY 10K
The final weekend of November brought crisp winter air and a buzzing atmosphere to the City of Doncaster as runners gathered for the 2025 Doncaster 10k on Sunday 30th November. This race, from the Curly’s Athletes stable of races, starts and finishes at the racecourse and heads around the city centre and is known for its flat profile with PB potential.
At the head of the race were Daniel James (Clee AC) who romped home in 31:25, very closely followed by Adam Theaker (Loftus & Whitby AC) in 31:28 and Daniel Reeve (Rotherham Harriers & AC) just one second behind in 31:29. First fillies past the post were Georgina Weston (York Knavesmire Harriers) in 36:30, with Lincoln Wellington AC duo Sophie George and Raissa Machado just 3 seonds apart, finishing in 37:13 and 37:16 respectively.
Barton & District AC produced some fine performances with Sarah Bainbridge, Ronda Rushby, Tracey Griffiths, Sean Bartlett and Martyn Rushby all trotting around Doncaster in the BADAC colours.
RUDOLPH’S ROMP 2025
Organised by the East Yorkshire arm of the LDWA (Long Distance Walkers’ Association) the annual Rudolph’s Romp is a traditional end of year challenge over the scenic Yorkshire Wolds on a classic route that provides a mix of terrain: woodland, hill and dale with sweeping views of the Vale of York and River Humber.
A popular event amongst BADAC off-road runners, Sunday 6th December was no exeption with Connor Benson, Sarah Bainbridge, Kathryn Drury, Matthew Lambert, Paul Corpse, Steve Chaplin, Racheal Couch, Beth Montgomery, Simon Palmer, Tracy Chaplin, Sue Oldfield and Scott Marrison all participating here.
THE HUMBER AA XC CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025
The Humber AA Cross Country Championships is a closed county event, with entry restricted to athletes qualifying by birth or residency within the unitary authorities of Hull, East Riding, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire,
True to December XC form the course was soft to heavy underfoot and the undulating parkland at Weelsby Woods provided its usual blend of fast grass stretches and energy-sapping uphill trails.
The Championships served as the selection trial for the Humber AA Inter-County team scheduled to compete at Wollaton Park, Nottingham in March 2026. Several of our athletes qualified to race here – well done to Piper Wilson, Olly Jones and Teddy Morgan alongside Winterton RC’s Hannah, mum of our young athlete Elsie Bruce.
The event’s success was made possible by the Humber Athletic Association officials and dedicated team of volunteers from the local clubs who marshaled the woods in December temperatures.
BADAC athletes taking part were Milly Atkin, Lucy Caddick, Harriet Armitage, Holly Sandon, Elsie Bruce, Thomas Pocock, Arthur Webb, George Fenton, Lucas Browne, Alfie Dervey, Taylor Dervey, Eddie Rushby, Charlotte Pocock, Poppy Dunk, Holly Simmons, Layla Caddick, Ava Lawtey, Charlotte Coupland, Beatrice O’Mara, Harry Atkin, Lucas Dunk, Piper Wilson, Teddy Morgan, Jake Newell, Olly Jones, Lyla O’Mara, Libby Harrison and Edie Webb.
Several of our teams achieved honours in the team events:
- U11 Girls: 1st – Elsie, Milly, Holly and Lucy
- U11 Boys 3rd – Lucas, George, Arthur and Thomas
- U13 Girls 2nd – Piper, Holly, Charlotte & Layla
- U13 Girls 3rd – Poppy, Ava, Charlotte & Beatrice
Along with individual medals for Elsie Bruce (3rd), Lucas Browne (2nd) and Teddy Morgan (2nd) a successful day for the small but mighty Barton & District AC!
SUCCESS IN THE WINTER SUN FOR SADOWYJ
The Ameris Bank Jacksonville Marathon is renowned as a flat, fast and shaded (approximately 85%) course, making it ideal for personal bests and Boston Marathon qualifying. The course, located in the Beauclearc and Mandarin neighbourhoods, features no major hills, bridges or overpasses!
The race finishes at the Bolles School Stadium Track and supports high school xc and track programmes in the Duval County and the Summer Camp Scholarship programme. Funding from the event is also provided to constructing new running trails in the Jacksonville area.
In its 42nd year, this is the oldest marathon in Jacksonville, Florida and one of the fastest courses in the US.
Ben Sadowyj currently residing in New York State headed to this marathon, voted fastest in the south, on Saturday 13th December for a 7am race start finishing in a fantastic 2:24:24, a huge 8 minutes ahead of the second placed finisher.
SPROUT SCUTTLING
The Great Sprout Scuttle 5k & 10k Christmas Day for Runners are off-road trail events held around the Normanby Park Estate at Burton-upon-Stather. There is a 5k race which includes dogs alongside a 5k and 10k trail event.
Running with their furry pals in the 5k Canicross event were Georgia Bullivent, Sharon Bullivent and Zoe Adams. Winning his age category in the 5k event was our very own William Edwards who finished 10th overall. The 10k saw Adam Parker, Karl Barker, Paul Ancliffe, Susan Ancliffe, Gillian Bridger, Tracey Lince and Claire Larke having fun in the muddy trails around the sprawling estate alongside reindeer, elves and a few Santa Claus.
BOXING DAY 10K
Working off an extra mince pie or two at the 10k route based around East park in Hull, East Hull Harriers AC organised Boxing Day 10k offers a largely flat profile. Thomas Smales claimed second place on the podium for BADAC on Friday 26th December 2025 with a PB time of 32:43. Mark Nettleton and Alison Nettleton also headed for this post-Christmas treat.
RIBBLE VALLEY 10K
Oliver Donkin continued his fantastic form, rounding off the year with a 30:02 and 8th overall finish at the Ribble Valley 10k on Sunday 28th December. The Ribble Valley is a local government district with borough status in Lancashire, the largest town of which is Clitheroe, where the event starts and finishes at Roefield Leisure Centre. Blackburn Harriers continue to support this event which is now organised by Runthrough and the event in December incorporated the Northern 10k Road Championships.
