On Saturday 1st March, members of Barton & District AC joined hundreds of participants in one of East Yorkshire’s most beloved walking and running events — The Golden Fleece Circuit. Held annually in memory of Bob Gunby, a dedicated Scout leader from South Cave, this event is more than just a physical challenge — it’s a celebration of community spirit, countryside beauty, and good old-fashioned grit.
What Is the Golden Fleece Circuit?
Organised by the South Cave Scouts, the Golden Fleece Circuit offers two scenic routes through the southern East Yorkshire Wolds. Participants can choose between a 27.5-mile long route and a more accessible 15-mile option. Both take in undulating countryside, peaceful valleys, and charming Yorkshire villages. The event starts and finishes at the All Saints’ Community Centre, nestled behind Cave Castle, giving the challenge a real sense of occasion.
Despite some wintry chill and slippery trails underfoot, the 2025 edition delivered exactly what regulars have come to expect: a well-organised and welcoming event filled with camaraderie, scenic views, and some of the best checkpoint snacks in the business. (Seriously — the homemade cakes and bakes at the aid stations are legendary.)

As always, Barton & District AC turned out in force, showcasing our club’s adventurous spirit and inclusive ethos. Whether tackling the full 27.5 miles or opting for the shorter course, our runners and walkers represented the club with determination and smiles.
