The cross-country season got underway in fine style as Cleethorpes AC hosted their 2025 Cross Country on Sunday 12th October. Runners from across the region gathered for competitive racing through the undulating woodland and open grassland of one of the area’s most popular venues.
Conditions were ideal for the athletes and the scenic yet demanding course which features several climbs, twisting woodland trails, and long stretches that rewarded those who could combine stamina with strength.
The junior races opened the day, with excellent participation across all age groups. Young athletes from Cleethorpes AC, Grimsby Harriers, Barton & District AC, and Scunthorpe & District AC showed determination and team spirit, many tackling the Weelsby Woods course for the first time.
Barton & District AC had a strong representation from the junior section with Milly Atkin, Elsie Bruce, Eva Morgan, Francis Szolkowski, Halle Wilson, Teal Wilson, Lucas Browne, Elsie Bruce, Charlie Chapman, Eddie Rushby, Alfie Dervey, Taylor Dervey, Fraser Wilson and Amber Coupland all performing brilliantly in the Under 11s race which kicked off the day. Francis, Lucas and Fraser claimed victory in the boys race with two of the girls teams of Elsie, Milly and Halle and Eva, Amber and Teal finished 2nd and 3rd in the girls team competition.
The Under 13 boys once again proved their quality with Oliver Jones reversing the finishing positions from the Road Race Championships the weekend before, finishing just one second ahead of teammate Teddy Morgan. Nicholas Mullineaux was the third member of the boys winning team with Isaac Browne finishing strongly in his first season in this age group.
Our Under 13 girls Piper Wilson, Charlotte Coupland and Beatrice O’Mara held their own in a strong field with Matthew Muller the only representative of the club over 14 years of age!
