On Sunday 7 September the iconic 13.1 mile the AJ Bell Great North Run drew almost 60,000 runners from Newcastle through Gateshead to the South Shields coast – cheered on by around 200,000 spectators lining the route.
Since 1981, the Great North Run as captured the imagination of runners across the globe. Divised by Olympic 10,000m bronze medalist and BBC Sport Commentator Brendan Foster, this year’s race had added post-race drama when the organisers accidentally used a map of Sunderland and the River Wear on the finisher medals and t-shirts instead of one showing Newcastle and the River Tyne.
Taking part from Barton & District AC at the world’s largest half marathon were Jon Wilson, William Edwards, Richard Musgrave, Helen Brandrick, Simon Palmer, Sue Oldfield and Lizzie Lewis.
